BACH ON A QUIET AFTERNOON

Listening to Bach:

Quiet otherwise.

Through the window

It looks cold,

Bleak.

Bach isn’t bleak,

Gloriously inspired.

Inside my home

It feels warm,

Joyous.

The human voice

Uniquely divine,

Touches my heart

With tender charm,

Caressingly.

Of human woes

Bach knows.

His voices sing

Of agony, trial,

Desolation.

Yet Bach inspires

In clear exultation

With beauty merciful

Of life and death

Tumultuous.

A quiet afternoon

Yet I have been

To universe magnificent

With voice and instrument

And Bach.
